Unitree G1 & China’s Humanoids Just Ran a Half-Marathon at Midnight – The 2026 Beijing Race Is Coming 🔥🤖

Imagine waking up in Beijing and seeing dozens of humanoid robots jogging through the streets at 3 a.m. — no humans, no support cars, just pure autonomous endurance.

That’s precisely what happened between March 14 and 15, 2026.

More than 20 teams of humanoid robots completed the first official trial run for the 2026 Beijing E-Town Humanoid Robot Half Marathon (scheduled for April 19). The robots covered the full 21 km course through city streets, parks and slopes — all in one night.

What Happened During the Trial?

The test run started in the evening and finished in the early morning hours. Robots from universities and companies (including advanced platforms like Unitree G1 and Tiangong from the Beijing Humanoid Robot Innovation Centre) navigated real-world obstacles:

  • uneven pavements
  • hills
  • traffic lights
  • crowds of early risers watching in amazement

One standout moment: a Tiangong humanoid crossed the finish line with stable gait and no visible fatigue. Videos show robots maintaining balance, making real-time decisions and running for hours without recharging mid-race.

This wasn’t a short demo — it was a full half-marathon endurance test under race-like conditions.

Why China Is Going All-In on Robot Marathons

Beijing E-Town (the host) already organized the world’s first humanoid robot half-marathon in 2025. The 2026 edition is a major upgrade:

  • more teams
  • tougher course
  • stricter autonomy rules

China sees this as the ultimate proving ground for embodied AI — robots that don’t just walk in labs, but perform in the real world for hours.

Unitree (famous for its agile G1 and H1 models) is heavily involved in the ecosystem. Their platforms are known for extreme mobility, cold-weather operation and fast gait — perfect for long-distance running.

The Bigger Picture for 2026

This trial run is a clear signal: humanoid robots are moving from “cool demo” to “real athletic performance.” Experts predict that by the end of 2026 we could see robots completing full marathons (42 km) and even running alongside humans in mixed races.

Brett Adcock (Figure AI) and other global leaders are watching closely — because endurance is the next big frontier after cleaning living rooms.

Your Turn

Would you run a marathon alongside a humanoid robot like Unitree G1? Or does the idea of robots outrunning humans in 2026 feel exciting… or a little scary?
